RRI World Service Voice of Indonesia with our today's Commentary entitled The US and China are satisfied with Taiwan's Presidential Election Results.// Listener, Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou won the election last Saturday.// With the vote tally reached around 51 percent, Ma who is the Chinese favorite will extend his term of office for another 4 year.// Ma is a president who firmly holds the 1992 consensus, the Taiwan-China Pact on "One China Policy" without further interpretation.// Of course China prefers Ma to win the elections to his opponent  Tsai Ing-wen who firmly fight for the independence, separated from China//

Based on the analyst, the result of Presidential election has shown that the Taiwanese people want to play peacefully, to be good with China and in this way avoids the war threat.// China is happy.// Washington is no longer worried about the new tense between the two parties.// Alexander Huang, a professor at Tamkang University in Taiwan was of the view that the result of Taiwan's elections for China has become an unofficial referendum to test whether the China's policy on the island is successful.// For the US, Taiwan Strait has proven to be more stable than the Korean Peninsula and the South China Sea.//

Since Ma Ying-jeou was elected the Taiwanese President in 2008, China and Taiwan have signed 16 agreements in tourism, trade and transportations.// The agreements benefited Taiwan.// However, China probably hopes with the agreement, the unification of the two territories will soon be realized.// China probably wants to get  Taiwan not only with weapon but also with business.// In fact, the Taiwanese businessmen have invested billions of Us dollars in China.// More than 200 thousand Taiwanese are working in in China as manufacture managers and traders.// They thank Ma who has opened  Taiwan-China direct flight.//

On Election Day, they returned home to Taiwan to cast their ballot.// They contribute the largest votes to President Ma.//

However, with Ma Ying-jeou's victory, it does not mean that the people of Taiwan want to reunification with China.//  In a poll in 2011, only 14 percents of respondents want reunification.// Twenty three percents of the respondents want to have independence soon.//  Sixty percents of them want to have status quo and only 8.7 percents want status quo towards reunification.//

Status Quo in Taiwan also becomes the best choice for the international world nowadays as Taiwan is the territory which can at any time draw the two largest nuclear weapon countries, the US and China towards war.// Both Beijing and Washington do not want to let it happen.//

And that ends Commentary.//
